Book Reach comes to Sabah
Following the registration of Book Reach as a charity in Malaysia, we are extending our work into schools in Sabah. The books will come from the International donor schools in Kuala Lumpur which will, in itself, simplify the logistics for their transport.
Mr Kenneth Tan, a past President of the Luyang Rotary Club, Kota Kinabalu, assisted with the management of a Book Reach booth at the 27th Rotary 3310 Conference at The Magellan Sutera, 11th-13th May 2018. Many Rotarians showed their interest in our work, especially with the extension into Sabah. Kenneth is now assisting with the storage and transport of the boxes arriving in Kota Kinabalu. Over the last two years, Kenneth’s advice has been invaluable. Thank you Kenneth!
The Department of Education in Kota Kinabalu has been approached and Mr Muarifin Monchoer (Assistant Director of Academic sector) has escorted Doreen to the Kota Belud district where two schools were identified as needing additional library books. Ms Catherine Benjamin (Language Unit Officer) has found two further schools which will receive approximately 800 books each. Added to these 4 schools will be the donation of small libraries to two girl hostels, a short distance out of Kota Kinabalu. We hope this will be a forerunner of a regular annual supply to school libraries in Sabah.
