The Garden International School
Siobhan Roulston was the Chief Librarian of the Garden School in Kuala Lumpur. She was approached in October 2013 to contribute towards the work undertaken by Book Reach. Although the school already had a procedure in place for its used books, she did not hesitate to put the needs of Book Reach at the top of her list.
Over the course of five months, Siobhan and her team of librarians collected 34 boxes of mixed primary readers and non-fiction books. In spite of the congestion this caused in their storeroom, the books were steadily gathered until collection in April 2014. A special thank you must also be given to the Headmaster, Mr Stuart Walker, who kindly organised transport of the books to the airport to save costs.
Siobhan has now been replaced by Jennifer Abbott, who has kindly continued to support Book Reach. She and the secondary librarian, Sara Sheldon, have agreed to focus on the work of Book Reach in their School Book Week functions. I am particularly grateful to Nadiya for her knowledge of suitable books and the time she has spent over the allocation and boxing of books over the last 5 years.
The Alice Smith School (Primary Campus)
In 2013 the Alice Smith School had just sent out their collection of used library books to their usual beneficiary when Book Reach first approached their then librarian, Barbara Reid (who is now Primary School librarian UWCSEA, East Campus, Singapore). Nevertheless, over the course of the next five months, the school collected four boxes of mixed primary books for our schools.
Kirsten Gallagher has continued to support Book Reach with the appropriate discarded books from their library. Nesa and Ayu have been invaluable with their added help.
The Alice Smith School (Secondary Campus)
Mr Robert George contributed much in time and advice to Book Reach. He puts aside discarded lower secondary fiction as well as appropriate magazines and course books.
The Australian International School
Umi Salmah, the Library Administrator, continues to contribute Lower secondary Technology course books and some appropriate fiction.
Mutiara International Grammar School
Deborah Clohesy and the Head of Primary, Nancy Roch, have kindly donated a large selection of the books from the re-organisation of their library. This substantial contribution was very welcome!
Nexus International School
The Head of Primary, Mr David Griffiths, and the Head of Libraries, Peter Rider, welcomed Doreen to their introductory meeting. Although a relatively new school, they will keep the needs of Book Reach in mind and will box up any appropriate books for the August 2016 dispatch. Book Reach is very grateful to Peter for agreeing to collect all the donated books from other schools into Nexus. This helps with keeping down our freight charges. Thank You, Thinesvary, for being there to supervise the logistics of that collection.
The International School of Kuala Lumpur
Mr Thomas Abraham assures Book Reach that we remain on their list of beneficiaries for the discarded books from their Primary library.
2017 – Thank you Suji Dehart for securing a sizeable collection of primary books for us this year.
Mr Bernard Chang of CL GEMILANG LOGISTICS has continued to be our efficient freight agent and friend in Kuala Lumpur. He has kindly stored boxes free of charge when donor schools in Kuala Lumpur have found their own storage insufficient. He has also donated coloured labels for the teachers in Nepal to use when they will be classifying the books this year. Thank you so much Bernard for your generosity.
The British School
2017 – We are happy and grateful to add the British School to our list of donor schools. Thank you Janine Murphy for your interest in the work that we do.
Datuk Victor Paul
2017 – A very special thank you to Datuk Victor for his contribution towards the work of Book Reach.
