March 4-7 2015: Singapore to visit our donor schools
Meeting with Jacqueline Makselon (Head librarian , Tanglin School) focused on the need for pre-primary to secondary books in the schools targeted by Book Reach.
- Noryati Mohdnor in the Secondary dept.
- Banjamin Farr in the Infant Library.
- Sheve Mui Yap in the Primary Library.
They will all save the books required from their own libraries.
It was a special pleasure to meet Mr Peter Derby-Cook, the CEO of Tanglin School, to thank him for all the magnificent support we have received from the school since the beginning of the Book Reach endeavour.
Yvonne Krishnan (St Joseph’s) was in school to talk to meet about the ongoing needs of the secondary schools we support. She introduced me to Siti Nurhidayah in the Junior Library and I was able to outline to her the specific lay out and levels of books needed. Stacy Law will be the school contact for the freight agent regarding pick up details.
It was a pleasure to meet up with Barbara Philips again. Barbara was the Librarian at Alice Smith School in Kuala Lumpur. She is now at United World College and was able to introduce me to Katie Day (Head of Libraries). We had a lengthy and very helpful discussion as to how UWC could help Book Reach. Apart from the books taken off the library shelves, the school will assist in making posters for schools in Nepal.
The Singapore consignment will leave for Nepal in the first week of July. I will travel on the same day to be able to clear the boxes myself and arrange their dispatch to schools as well as meeting all the teachers again and giving workshops. In this 4 – 6 week visit, we will search for locally – made library furniture for the allocated schools.
